On 30-Sep-25 I did a talk for the Raspberry Pint folks titled “Building resilient systems that don’t need the cloud”
Forget smart-home toys. This is automation for dirt, water, and weather. I’ll show how I designed and built a fully self-hosted system to run real-world farm infrastructure at Stella Porta™—with Raspberry Pi at the core, code written in C/C++, and zero reliance on cloud services or third-party platforms. From isolated I²C and 1-Wire sensor interfaces to a custom PWM solenoid driver for irrigation valves, plus power-management hardware to keep the Pi alive and shut it down safely, this project proves you can own the whole stack—end to end, and off the grid.
